Description

HER 3731.1.0 The name of the inn suggests a windmill run in conjunction with the watermill at Carrington (1). Tithe Map 1841: Windmill Public House building as 1876 (2). OS 1848: site is shown but not named (3). OS 1876: site gives name as the Windmill Inn and shows a rectangle with wings to the rear and side. Also, an oblong building – possibly stables (4). OS 1929: shows an L-shaped building – otherwise as above. OS 1981: building still standing. The building is thought to date back to the 18th century when it was a series of cottages. Over the years it has been extended sympathetically to give the feel of a traditional multi-roomed pub.
