This is a small historic stone structure reflecting the local history of the area.

Age

Probably earlier than 1850; it is on the 1855 OS map.

Rarity

I have never seen another water trough with a stone hood/arch protecting the water for human use, either locally or in other areas of the UK

Architectural and Artistic Interest

It is built in local stone to an unusual, possibly unique, design

Historic Interest

This is one of several water troughs in the area presumably built when the Loxley Valley was an important industrial area.

Landmark Status

It is a well-known feature in the Loxley Valley as it stands on the main road.
