Historic Interest

Porches dramatically expressed the height of a building at a time when people wanted to affirm their superiority over homes that were merely single storey – therefore this feature was a status symbol employed by yeoman seeking to ‘gentrify’ themselves. Was popular during the 16th and 17th century.
