Type

Building

Roofed and walled permanent structures.

Description

Late nineteenth century Rothschild Estate building. This building sits behind and forms part of the estate yard complex. Orientated gable onto the High Street and partly screened by a high brick wall/gateway, public views of the principal elevation of the building are limited. Nevertheless, the form, massing, proportions, materials and detailing of the building are instantly recognisable as Rothschild estate - in particular, the use of combinations of material (decorative hung tiles, applied timber, pebbledash) used for decorative effect and the characteristically steep pitch of the gabled roof punctuated by gabled dormers. This building is locally significant because it forms part of a group of estate buildings which share similar form, massing, materials, decorative details and colour palette and which form a key element in establishing the special character of the village. A Local Building of Note within the Conservation Area (B1).
