Description
The two gateposts near corner of Chester Road and Boyer Street originally served one of the entrances to the former Royal Deaf School and Henshawe’s Institution site. The gateposts have lost almost all their original setting following the demolition of the institutions on site in the latter 20th century, including their associated boundary walling. The open, grassy area in which they now sit does to some (albeit limited) degree reflect the landscaped approach to the principal façade of the institute which they would have originally served.
Statement of Significance
Historic Interest
The institute gateposts make some contribution to the institutional heritage of the plan area, however this is limited due to the loss of associated buildings and boundary walls.Date Listed
