Description
Modest built form in terms of scale and massing. No.1 has a rear outrigger with cat-slide roof. More recent rear/side single storey extensions are not entirely ideal but have retained a legibility of the older built form. The front elevation retains a pleasing rhythm and consistency of elevation door and window openings including canopies to front doors. Chimneys survive. The roof is in slate, the front elevation is in a mix of exposed brickwork and a limited ‘half-timbered’ element to the first floor of No.1 and other elevations are rendered. All consistent with materials seen elsewhere in the locality. The front doors and a number of sliding sashes appear as possibly as appropriately detailed replacements of more recent times. The introduction of several top-hung windows is less than ideal but does not overly harm the overall architectural interest and could be reversed at some future date. Interestingly, there are two leaded casements within the half-timbered front elevation area and this composition could be an historic change to reflect prevailing Arts and Crafts detailing at that time and seen in other parts of the area.
