Type

Building

Roofed and walled permanent structures.

Description

A detached two-storey house of some status in an Arts and Crafts style. Pitched roof in slate and white rendered elevations with window surrounds (including culls) and other limited architectural detailing in stone. Chimneys and other original features survive. The boundary to Church Brow is in stone (with some brick repairs) that gives the impression of pre-dating the house. The grounds include a single-storey outbuilding/garage close to the house. Dating from the 1920s, Windyridge represents a fine and well-preserved example of an Arts and Crafts house, with much of the interior designed by Libertys. The site is shown as undeveloped on the Ordnance Survey 2nd Revision 1:2500 map of 1910. Used as the vicarage after the Second World War.
