Description

HER 7560.1.0 Shown on Swire & Hutchings 1829 map. (1) Tithe map 1839: "Cottage and Garden". App. No. 456a. Occupier: Thomas Richardson. Shown as a small oblong building. (2) OS 1873: site shown as an oblong building with one wing, named as Holly Cottage. (3) OS 1929: the wing is no longer present, and the building is shown as oblong. (4) OS 1983: as 1929. Brick and slate. Decorative terracotta brick at door and windows. 2 storeys. Central ridge chimney. South elevation with central door and 2 windows and 1 upper eaves dormer window. 2 end-gable windows, 3-light, upper and lower. Probably (small rear wing) with small brick chimney. Two dwellings, originally one dwelling and stable block, of c.1800. T-shape in plan, the Old Post Office forms the bulk of the dwelling and its tenancy includes the extension to rear. Holly Cottage forms the left hand side of the main building.
