Description

19th century Assembly Rooms and early 20th century fire station, both now a shop occupied by Sports Direct. Assembly Rooms (HER No.178496), built by Sylvanius Trevail, opened in July 1896 by Sir Charles Sawle, with the ceremony followed by a public luncheon and grand concert. Building contained a drill hall, board room, storeroom, kitchen and fire engine shed. On the first floor was a large hall with stage and balcony, meeting rooms and offices. Fire Station, Truro Road, built 1920, on the east side of the Assembly Rooms (HER No. 178497). Recorded on the 1:2500 Revised Edition 1931 OS map. Identified in the St Austell THI survey as Possible Locally Significant Building depending on further research.
