Statement of Significance

Asset type

Arts and Craft design residential building

Age

Early 20th century

Architectural and Artistic Interest

Nice Arts and Craft example. Two storey rendered house, front gable. Half timber to side gable. Tiled roof with red brick chimney stacks. The property does not (yet) appear to have been externally modified to any great extent - an application CH/2003/1678/FA was approved for a single storey rear extension, which does not appear to have been built, but planning application PL/22/1326/FA has recently been approved for single storey front and rear extensions.

Group Value

Part of the original Liberty Grimms Hill estate

Historic Interest

The group of Arts and Craft properties on the estate nicely illustrate the Liberty vision and design concepts. One of the original properties on Arthur Lasenby Liberty's Grimms Hill private estate of low density 'Metroland' housing, built in the early 20th century to exploit the convenience of the Metropolitan Railway (arrived 1892).
