Statement of Significance
Age
Former lifeboat house probably built c.1864 when Blackpool’s first lifeboat, the Robert William, was launched from opposite the Manchester Hotel.Historic Interest
One of the earliest buildings on Lytham Road, and notable for its historical connection to Blackpool’s first lifeboat. Contemporary accounts note that the lifeboat was horse-drawn from the new lifeboat station in Lytham Road. Marked as a lifeboat station on OS mapping until 1932 (when a new lifeboat station was built on the Promenade, designed by Halstead Best [q.v.]). Building now part-vacant and apparently used for storage.Landmark Status
The building is little altered and makes an important contribution to the street scene.Date Listed
