Roofed and walled permanent structures.

Description

Two storeys in four bays with jettied first floor storey. Constructed from brick with half timber decoration to first floor and red tiled roof. Ground floor has red sandstone mullioned windows with entrance in third bay with Tudor style doorway and red sandstone dressings. 8-light mullioned canted bay window to second bay. Much of the original stained glass now replaced with clear glass in original openings throughout ground floor. Large stained glass window remains at the rear. First floor has gables to 2nd and 3rd bays with timber windows and wide barge boards. 4-light timber mullions to 1st and 4th bays, all with leaded lights. Tall brick chimneys to centre and each end of the roof. Single storey rear extension to the east end with tall lateral chimney stack appears to be contemporary with the front of the building but with remodelled windows.

Substantial Tudor style public house designed by local architect JB Singleton for Burtonwood Brewery Ltd.

Historic Interest

The public house replaced the 19th century Albion Hotel on the site.

Archaeological Interest

Built on the site of an earlier building so has good archaeological potential.
