Description

Bus station and multi-storey car park. Steel and concrete frame, constructed using the relatively new method of vibrating the concrete to strengthen it. Faience cladding removed and corrugated cladding added in 1964. A pedestrian doorway has a shallow canopy and surround in green faience representing the original decorative scheme, and there is an area of yellow tiles exposed at the back on Deansgate. Tall bus station designed for double-deckers, open on two sides. Four upper storeys for cars approached by a 1:7 gradient with original stairs for pedestrians. The building was erected as part of a progressive strategy for traffic management formulated by Blackpool Corporation during the interwar period. Re-developed in 2013 as part of regeneration scheme to include retail at ground level and re-cladding.
