Roofed and walled permanent structures.

Description

Purpose-built showroom built for Thomas’s Motor Depot. Originally a single-storey building which dominated the junction of a major thoroughfare. The building has since acquired a second storey but retains its distinctive curved frontage and Classical style architectural features at ground floor level. Its location at the busy crossroads gives it a land mark quality which contributes to its local significance. Probably faience, now painted. Three Romanesque arched windows with keystones to central curved bay, the middle one of which is now the main entrance. Wreaths in relief to the spandrels. Elevations to Waterloo Road and Park Road are articulated by fluted pilasters with plain capitals and dentil cornice. Two bays to Waterloo Road with entrance at the end with elaborate floral festoon and shield decoration above the door surround. Six bays to Park Road. Parapet with urns above the pilasters removed to add the second storey. Modern display windows in original openings all round.
