Description

Nineteenth century barns and cartshed at Well End Farm, now two houses. Well End Farm is a key grouping of buildings in the conservation area, with a spacious setting of field and pasture to all sides. The farm buildings form a traditional square plan around a central courtyard, with the threshing barn dominating the north side of the yard and the lower ranges of single storey barns, stabling and former dairy to west, south and south-east respectively. The western range of barns are a mixture of types, and appear to date from the mid-19th century. The main part is of flint with openings surrounded by brick quoins and further brick detailing at the eaves and around the stable openings and is likely to date from early-19th century when the farm was 'improved'. An open fronted weatherboarded cart shed extension continues the range to the north; this has a slate roof to the western roof slope. A significant building within the Conservation Area of Well End (B1).
