Architectural and Artistic Interest

Brick built cottages with turned gables to the end cottages. First floor and gables have hung clay tiles and under clay tile roofs. Doors and decorative canopies retain uniformity, some alterations to windows but again retain overall uniform appearance. Chimneys retained and open cottage gardens to front aspect with minimal division between properties.

Group Value

Group value between the 6 cottages and with the GII listed Grendon Hall and separately listed GII Gate piers and railings to Grendon Hall as well as to the Grendon Hall Historic Park and Garden immediately to the rear of the cottages (also nominated to the Local List).

Historic Interest

Historic Interest as above . The wider site and group have historic interest as requisitioned during the war and used by MI5 as a code breaking and radio communications centre etc. Now HMP Grendon & Springhill.
