Description

A former bank built in 1909 and is of Edwardian styling in red brick with extensive stone ornamentation. It is a single-storey building with a hipped slate roof to the Stockport Road frontage, with the rear part of the roof laid flat. The bank was closed in June 2017. Planning consent obtained in December 2020 for a change of use to a two-storey restaurant, including first floor extension, retention of the front facade, external staircase, new plant room at roof-top level together with internal alterations (Application 99878/FUL/20).

Architectural and Artistic Interest

The former bank is of Edwardian styling in red brick with extensive stone ornamentation. It takes an L-shaped plan that wraps around a two-storey building at the junction of Stockport Road and Thorley Lane. It is a single-storey building with a hipped slate roof to the Stockport Road frontage, with the rear part of the roof laid flat.

Landmark Status

This building retains a level of historic fabric and historic architectural detail which make a positive contribution to the surrounding area.
