Red brick department store, rebuilt in 1912, with good townscape qualities in its corner site and retention of detail to the upper floors. Ironmongery, taken over by Rawcliffe’s outfitters in 1904. Rebuilt in 1912 and now in use with shops on the ground floor. Rawcliffe’s specialised in school uniforms from 1907. The building probably comprised several individual building in the late 19th century, and the 1893 OS shows a glazed canopy to the street.
Red brick with ashlar dressings and string courses, 3 storeys, with 3 window bays to Corporation Street and 4 bays to Church Street. Flat roof with ‘RAWCLIFFE’S’ to stone parapet on each elevation, above a projecting cornice. Rectangular ashlar architraves with projecting cills, containing timber sashes to the upper storeys. Bowed corner flanked by brick pilasters, with plaques ‘THE/CORNER’ and ‘REBUILT/1912’ to the corner. Modern shopfronts and fascias to the ground floor.
