Architectural and Artistic Interest

A reminder of what this part of hale , peel causeway was like when it was first converted from marshland to residential use.

Group Value

This part of Hale , west of the station is a little village within a village with historic terraces on the north side , he new millenium clock , small shops and hospitality sites , an active newsagent, dental services and a proposed garden around the Clock . These two shops at 116 and 118 reinforce the impression of a small and largely unspoilt village.

Historic Interest

Peel Causeway, now Ashley Road did not exist as the main road that it now is , joining altrincham to Hale and the villages beyond the Bollin until the mid 19th cent and the arrival of the railway. The aforementioned hoses must have been amongst the very first terraced cottages to be built along the road.

Archaeological Interest

Flemish Bond brickwork , slate roof and what appears to be the original chimney stack and chimney.

Landmark Status

Has status by reason of not having a totally reconstructed facia and stands out from some of the adjacent buildings .
