The 1877 map records the name of this property as Elm Cottage. Around 1910 this mid-19th century double-depth property was extensively rebuilt. A new three storey, double fronted, wing was built across the southern range of rooms of the earlier house, creating a large, double-depth, villa-style residence. The main alterations after c. 1910 concerned the Stable Block The original building now has a flat roof with brick crowstep parapets, possibly showing the position of the original roof line. To the E elevation is a 2-storey extension, also with a flat roof. The later structure has a steeply pitched gable roof with slates, barge boards and grey ridge tiles. Iron gutters and downpipes. The single storey extension to the whole of the front is single pitch with hipped ends. Chimneys are outside at gables with red machine brick oversailing, decoration and red vented pots. The main entrance is through a panelled « glazed timber door with two lights with semi-circular heads into shallow extension across the whole front. Access is also via a panelled door with a square, flat roofed porch in the corner of the later house and extension to E. There is a doorway in the W gable of the earlier house containing a 40-pane timber framed door of c.1910. The windows are casement throughout. The windows to the first floor of the earlier house are 3-light, single pane with segmental brick arches over and timber sills. To the N extension the windows are 1, 2 or 3-light, 2-pane with segmental brick arches and stone sills. The new house has bay windows to the first floor, 14-light, single pane, with an additional similar bay to the E elevation. The first floor has 10-light, single pane and attics have gabled dormers above eaves, 3-light, single pane. Random windows have diamond kames. The flooring to the old house is red and black tile and parquet to the main house at ground floor. All first and second floors are boarded with deep, moulded timber skirtings. The old house has a steep, timber, straight stair with ramped handrail. Main house has wide timber stair leading from the drawing room through enclosed ¬ turn, straight stair with shallow risers and landing at bottom. Similar, narrow stair to second floor. The wall removed between the two houses forms a corridor and landing at different levels. Decorative features within the main house include the heavy, exposed chamfered joists, picture rails, window seats, fireplaces of plain oak with tile surrounds. Panelled doors, deeply moulded skirtings and old cupboards. First floor has cupboards and cast iron fireplace. Attics have cupboards under the eaves, exposed purlins and steps up to the dormer windows. The early house has a plaster rose motif in the ceiling of the hall and an archway to the stair. Identified as a 'positive contributor' to the Dunham Town Conservation Area.
