Statement of Significance

Asset type

Chilterns style barn conversion

Age

Uncertain, but moved and re-erected here in 1950s, when owners bought Hall Place, giving the building a farmyard setting. This property occupies the site of a building that can be identified on the 1753 Godolphin Estate map (see https://ourlivingvillage.org/origins.html) which is adjacent and orthogonal to the extant 16th century Grade II listed (Listing Id 1332493) Hall Place. The barn from which this dwelling was created, however, is believed to have been salvaged from the grounds of the farm at Holtspur on the A40 that became the Kings Head pub (then the Harvester, and now Miller & Carter) and was re-erected and converted to a residential dwelling here in the 195/60s. Possibly 18th Century. Converted to two houses in 1982. Source Case officer Report Consultation section CH/2007/0300/FA

Architectural and Artistic Interest

Half of a former barn, historically in the curtilage of Grade II listed Hall Place. Traditional Chilterns style timber framed barn, brick and weatherboarding clad with tile roof. Modern windows, doors and rooflights fitted as part of the barn conversion. Source Case officer Report Consultation section CH/2007/0300/FA
