Description

Former Unitarian Church. The rock-faced sandstone church has a steeply-pitched Welsh slate roof and is designed in a simple early Decorated Gothic style. The entrance faces west with a north-west 3-stage corner tower with string courses, gabled parapets, pinnacles, lancets and 2-light louvred pointed bell openings. Slender stone spire. West front has two pointed doorways, one in base of tower and one to right with shallow gothic porch; west wall dominated by a large 4-light traceried pointed window with a pair of lancets below. Nave and chancel are under one roof, covered in Welsh slate and now with rooflights in two tiers. North elevation has five plain lancets and stepped buttresses. Low boundary walls in coursed stone with weathered copings enclose the site to the south with two pairs of ashlar square stone gate piers. The two-storey church hall is attached to south side of church, faced in stone. The west gabled elevation projects forwards and is lit by a large pointed window, now filled with modern glass. A tiny curiosity shop with early 20th century shop front is inserted into the right hand of the ground floor. Railings are modern, enclosing hard landscaping installed as part of conversion to flats.
