Statement of Significance

Age

Methoidist church built 1844 and Manse in 1868

Architectural and Artistic Interest

The chapel is set back from the road, with a small garden to the front. Limestone church, as it is located on a slope the it is a two storey building. A single storey front porch was added in 1928 and there have also been changes to the windows. Brick building to the rear. The Manse is a peculiar unsymmetrical red brick building. The sash windows to the front elevation differ in size between the left and the right hand, this is partially because the left hand window was originally the front door. Tall red brick stack to the side elevation. Like the church the manse is on a sloping site so is taller to the rear.

Historic Interest

The Methodist chapel was built at a time when the population of the village was 930. The first Day School, opened in 1846 was in the rooms below the church. Three years later the school was moved.
