Statement of Significance
Asset type
Uniform row of 4 cottages.Age
Late C19th.Architectural and Artistic Interest
Cohesive set of 4 cottages, of circa 1880, constructed of clay bricks laid in Flemish Bond under a pitched & hipped slate roof. Original chimneys clustered, brick-built, with 2 to serve the 4 cottages. Doors to end cottages arranged to sides of facade & centrally to the centre two, so as No.’s 23 & 27 are of sane design & likewise with No’s. 25 & 29. All 4 front doors are matching panelled wooden ones, each painted in a different colour & having generally later - & as such - mismatched ironwork. No. 23 has had a couple of glazed panels inset into top of the door. Windows also appear original & are wooden sash ones set into wooden frames, all painted white. Areas of glazing subdivided into smaller panes. One window, of matching size & type, to each floor. First-floor window set centrally, whilst ground-floor window offset to one side to allow for neat spacing in relation to position of front door.Group Value
Set on Church Street, not far from the junction with the High Street, which is near the centre of the Conservation Area, which is where buildings with Statutory Listings are clustered, as well those emerging through the Local Listings.Date Listed
