Statement of Significance

Age

Approximately built at the turn of the 19th century (see maps)

Architectural and Artistic Interest

They are a good example of the built form of the work thought to have been carried out by the major local building firm of the time called, William Hartley & Sons (Wexham) Limited. (Information gleened from a very old resident of one of the cottages who has lived there most of his life).

Group Value

They have a clear relationship with the adjacent Sefton Park estate, including the Sefton farm. Both the farm building: Chiltern House, to the north (across Decies Way) and Sefton Park itself are designated Listed buildings. The cottages are believed to have been built for the workers of the adjoing estate. They contribute to the wider local narrative of workers cottage for several large estates in and around the Parish which is in itself quite unique in the county to have so many 'manors' in one Parish.

Landmark Status

The two cluster of 'workers' cottages are on the main road running North - South through the centre of the village and are close to the change in speed limit to 30mph (residential area) as such they are particularly noticeable to road users.
