Description
Royal Oak Cottage was once a public house in 1910 under the Wethered Brewery based in Marlow. The house has been known as Cherry Trees in the mid-20th century. This substantial property has grown from two tiny cottages dating from the 17th century. The remains of the cottages can still be seen in the northwest elevation. The flintwork stops just above the top of the ground floor windows suggesting that the cottages were heightened possibly in the mid-19th century. Chequered brick work has also been used as part of the original construction.
The complex roof form of hipped and half hipped variations is laid with traditional clay tiles and glass elements to the modern additions. The property falls within the Northend CA, a small hamlet to the north of Turville village.
