Early nineteenth century Regency style house, extended in 1900.

Architectural and Artistic Interest

Stewkley House has a date on the front of one of its four brick gables recording its construction in 1900. However, the rear part of the house is built in stone and was formerly called Stewkley Cottage. The older part of the house is built in the Regency style of the early 19th century. The grounds of Stewkley House contain dense and mature planting of sycamore and horse chestnut that dominates this part of the village. The more modern front street elevation has two storey red brick front double gable with round windows in the gables. Diaper decorations. Tiled roof. House is set back from the road behind a red brick wall and gates.

Historic Interest

The original house had been in the same family for over 400 years by the time Basil Tangye a South African Engineering magnet bought the house in the mid 1950s. For a short time after the 1950s, it was a Country house hotel. Stewkley Parish Council - stewkley.org.uk
