On the north west side of Station Road after the railway bridge facing the Town Council Green is a parade of shops built by C E Gibbings on land once owned by Baring Du Pre.

Parade of shops. Significance: This parade of period buildings adds to the character of the New Town. Threats: The uniform character of the parade has been eroded in the last 30 years. New windows and doors and doorways have been introduced.Age

This parade of period buildings adds to the character of the New Town. They were built at a time when trade prospered and many original traders ie grocers, draper, builder, ironmonger and newsagent traded for many years as the New Town grew and demand increased. The facades have changed little only the occupants are different. The buildings have changed little since this time. Most still have a gable end facing east and are about 19ft wide. One was the original New Town Post Office before a purpose built one was built south of the bridge.Group Value
