Description

Cobble built cottage, on historic route through medieval Layton village. Two storey 3 bay cottage of local traditional cobble construction and Yorkshire sliding sashes to upper floor. Now used as 2 dwellings. Cobble boundary wall also remains.

Historic Interest

Originally known as the Factory and forming part of the estate of the Bailey family of neighbouring Cross House. The Bailey family constructed one of the first purpose built hotels in Blackpool, now the Metropole, in the 1780s. The Factory became a schoolhouse until the 1820s when it was divided into 3 cottages.
