Another valuable source for research are historic maps, these can assist people in understanding the development of the area over time. Good sources for viewing digital maps are via:
1. Mario Maps

Lancashire County Council’s interactive mapping website - Use this service to access information about an area in Lancashire or look at services provided by the county council and its partners. You can use MARIO to find your street, your house, or anywhere else in the county.
2. National Library of Scotland

The National Library of Scotland 'Map images' resource allows you to access and view all the maps they have scanned as high-resolution, colour, zoomable images. The maps date between 1560 and 1970 and include maps of England and Great Britain.
