Description

This pair of farm workers’ cottages is all that survives of the historic Bispham Grange Farm, which was reputedly the oldest farm in the area with a cobble built longhouse. The latter was demolished and rebuilt sometime in the second half of the 19th century to provide improved accommodation but was demolished in 1960 to make way for residential development. It had latterly formed part of the Norbreck Hydro Farm. Two storey semi-detached cottages, probably brick rendered and painted. Two bays to front elevation with stone mullioned windows with hood moulds to ground and first floor, modern inserts in original openings to no. 205. Slate roof with decorative terracotta ridge cresting. Entrances in side elevations with added porch to no. 205. Single windows with hood moulds to each storey in side elevations, plus a more recent small single window inserted on each side to first floor. Single storey side/rear extensions to each cottage which, although altered, appear to be contemporary with the house with slate roof and decorative terracotta ridge cresting. The cottages sit behind a cobble wall which extends down the side of no. 203. The cottages are important because they signify the agricultural history of the area.
