Type

Building

Roofed and walled permanent structures.

Description

Rendered brick, of three storeys over a basement with an added attic storey probably of mid or late C20 date. Each house has steps up to an entrance framed by foliated pilasters with consoles rising from them to support shallow balconies with cast-iron balustrades. Tall windows to the balconies have stilted-arched heads with moulds and consoles. To one side of each door are full-height canted bay windows with cornices at the top continued as an eaves band. The houses are part of an otherwise altered terrace of unified design which was probably built speculatively after the nearby Central Pier was opened; in 1895 the building was listed as lodging houses. The approach retains front walls and gate piers of brick.
