Landmarks, Art Works and Way Finders

There are a range of other features that give our local areas their distinctive character, from public art, such as statues and sculpture, to stand-alone monuments like memorials, milestones or village crosses. Any heritage assets such as these that are not designated nationally, are eligible to be nominated for the Local Heritage List.

In South Yorkshire, this type of asset will be considered in relation to one of two asset types;

  • For structural landmarks such as crosses, signposts and other waymarkers, and wells, the Buildings/Structures criteria will be used.
  • For assets that commemorate an individual, group or event, such as artworks, statues, memorials, and other free-standing monuments, the Commemorative Monuments/ Memorials/ Statues criteria will be used.
