The Villa, Hood Green
Location/Address
The Villa, Hood Green Road, Hood Green, Stainborough
Type
Description
Detached stone built house with gabled frontage containing mullioned and transomed windows and lean-to porch. A western range to the building is rendered but conforms with the original footprint of the building depicted on the 1891 OS map. The roof is pitched and overhangs at the eaves with decorative barge boards. In the Gothic Revival style and most likely contemporary with The Gables to the west, which was built by F. W. T. V. Wentworth to house a lay-reader for the village and is of the same design. OS maps of 1906 and 1931 label the site as a Post Office (although, confusingly the "Old Post Office" is a name adopted by a building to the west).
