Statement of Significance

Architectural and Artistic Interest

Free-standing exterior remains in 1914 condition. Interior features dating from the 1926 refurbishment survive – plaster ceiling, balcony front (mutilated but still showing faded colour-scheme), tiled staircase to balcony and (allegedly) decorative mosaic floor with legend 'Wincobank Picture Palace' under modern floor-covering in foyer.

Group Value

Intact exterior – unmistakably a cinema – makes a dominant feature among modest housing development.

Historic Interest

A village cinema in an isolated community which only became a suburb of Sheffield well into the twentieth century. Always a family-run business that was an integral part of local life.
